House Guidelines
To maintain a harmonious home, Heidelmann has some established house rules and general guidelines.
General Rules
- After 11:00 pm. there shall be “quiet time” wherein all members and guests will show consideration and will avoid disturbing others. The caretaker may designate a “responsible” member to lock up, turn off lights, and generally ready the lodge for closing for the night.
- Members and accompanied guests may use the members’ room. Before closing the room for the night, those using the room are responsible to:
- clean and restore the room to order
- keep the fireplace screened at all times
- securely lock all windows
- A member or guest who leaves the lodge expecting to return after 11:00 pm must obtain the combination for the front door from the caretaker before leaving.
- Anyone arriving after 11:00 pm should be quiet as possible and use only a flashlight. The shaded dormitory lights should only be used when absolutely necessary and must be turned off before retiring.
- SMOKING is NOT permitted in the lodge.
- The music system is to be used at the discretion of the caretaker or an appropriate member.
- Upon request of the caretaker or by a Heidelmann Lodge Committee (HLC) member, members and their guests shall assist in the cleaning and/or maintenance of the lodge.
- It is the responsibility of members to familiarize their guest(s) with the House Rules. Parents are advised to instruct their children to follow the House Rules and to obey the caretaker.
- Any member or guest who willfully violates the House Rules may be subject to disciplinary action by HLC.
Sponsored-Guests
Sponsors are responsible for their guests. As a member, you are responsible for informing your guest(s) about Lodge rules, the dorms, parking, food storage.
Each member can sponsor 7 guests if they stay with them, or 3 if they sign guest passes. The sponsor must accompany a guest the first time.

The lodge has sleeping accommodations for 100 persons in two large single-gender dorms, with showers and restrooms on the second floor. The first floor offers a large living room with a piano and a wood burning stove, a large dining room/kitchen, a small library, and a warming room. The large basement has a cold storage room, a tool room, many lockers, table tennis, and a members’ room with a fireplace. You must bring your own sleeping bag, pillow cases, and toiletries. - Radios and all other listening devices may only be played while wearing headphones.
Sickroom Policy
Priority goes to: Members with youngest child under 4 years old or sick individuals.
Meals
Members are on their own. They should bring sufficient food and drink, and cook for themselves. Food lockers are available for rent by members to store food over the winter. There are fridges, a freezer, and storage available. Everyone has to share the kitchen and dining room space. A gigantic stove is on from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Maintenance
During your stay, there are no house chores, but everyone is expected to clean after themselves and help the caretaker, if help is needed. This lodge belongs to the members. Please leave it as you would wish others to leave it for you.
Work Days
Although special work days may be called, annual scheduled work fests include Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. A work day at Heidelmann can count as one of the required workdays for prospective members.
Pets
During summer, members’ dogs only are allowed outside the building and on leash.
Travel Tips
In winter, try to travel during the daytime to avoid the snowy busy parking lot at night. Test snow chains before a trip. Pack light. Bring flash lights. Learn tricks from the Old Timers. Bring as much food as possible upon arrival. Ski and food lockers are for rent yearly.
